VIAHA Notice On Non-Sanction Events

At the Sept 10th, 2023 VIAHA Executive Committee Meeting there was discussion around how to
handle requests from members wanting to attend non-sanctioned events (i.e. minor hockey team
appearances between periods at BCHL games). MHA Presidents asked for some direction and the
implementation of a possible VIAHA policy was brought up.

While non-sanction events may have alternate insurance coverage to Hockey Canada`s in place,
sadly it was felt that should VIAHA or its MHA`s give any type of permission to attend they would be
leaving themselves open to potential liability.

It was agreed that Hockey Canada guidelines clearly state there is to be no participation in non-
sanctioned events, therefore the following motion was voted on and the wording will be added into the VIAHA Policy Manual.

MOTION: M/S (Harold Bloomenthal/Nicki Reich) VIAHA policy will be to follow Hockey Canada
sanctioning guidelines and continue not to allow its teams/members to participate in non-sanctioned
events.
